Dining Room

The original dining room was small and isolated, with no access to the garden or the kitchen. A large chimney breast sliced a substantial amount of the footprint in one corner, and the area around a modestly sized dining table was too tight for comfort. The room was dated, and lacked character features, missing the dado rail, coving and picture rails found in other areas of the house.

To resolve the disconnect, the chimney breast was removed and the wall between the kitchen and dining room was taken down. A small atrium extension was opened through the exterior wall which modestly enhanced the footprint for the needed ease around the table. This additionally gained the benefit of natural light from the west for lovely evening dinners, and a casual place to read a book or take a view of the garden. The reconfiguration provided improved traffic flow and direct access to the kitchen.
