Adventurer’s Bedroom

A host of issues existed in the old second floor extension where this room resides. A doorway needed to be repositioned to make direct access from the upstairs landing. The roof leaked, the room lacked storage and an asbestos chimney breast had been installed in the 1960’s. New windows, fresh plaster, ceiling and roof repair, a built-in closet and wall to wall carpet were installed with exaggerated skirting boards, new coving and period architrave to match original features in the property.

A young teen who loves nature, adventure and extreme sports requested his room be “kind to the earth” and he wanted the décor to inspire him to look forward to great adventures when he gets older. After the practicalities were taken care of, the design began. Some amazing images adorn his walls showcasing explorers experiencing nature’s wonders first-hand (Glaciers, Grand Canyon, Ocean Caves). These are featured alongside a vintage world map with historic travel routes illustrated on the image. The colours of the room are inspired by the earth; the ocean and the land (Green, brown, blue), and the accent furniture in a raw wood and linen also speaks to a natural environment. It is a classic combination that feels distinctive and masculine. It is absolutely future proof, he won’t grow out of this space!
