Eltham Living Room
A large family of six wanted a space where everyone could gather to enjoy movie nights together. The long, awkward reception rooms typical of Corbett Houses in Eltham Park offered impressive scale but presented challenges in proportion, making it difficult to find optimal viewing angles from all seating positions.
To enhance functionality, doorway openings were modified to improve furniture placement. A large area rug was introduced to define focal spaces, while a bespoke bookcase was crafted to house the television and provide additional display options. This custom unit not only frames the fireplace but also guides the arrangement of the furniture.
The interior design incorporated contemporary oversized furniture to maintain proportionality within the room while maximizing comfort for lounging during movies. The more angular silhouettes create a modern feel that contrasts beautifully with the traditional period features of the space. The sofa, upholstered in leather, was selected for its practicality, ensuring that spills from drinks or popcorn would be easy to clean.
