Greenwich Guest Suite
A Greenwich couple loved hosting friends and family on weekends, but space was an issue. Their basement, poorly configured and tiny, had become a catch-all for laundry, luggage, and bicycles. They were unsure how to transform it into a functional guest suite. The goal was to create an upscale, Asian-inspired retreat that felt both modern and contemporary while honouring the regency character of their Grade II listed home.
They envisioned a luxurious space with thoughtful details, yet the existing terracotta tile floors had to remain. The solution began by selecting a beautiful, scenic Asian-inspired wallpaper that harmonized with the terracotta tones. Drawing on the colours and textures of the mural, the design introduced both feminine and masculine elements, incorporating materials like wood, onyx, and jacquard.
Working within a budget that didn’t allow for correcting a previously altered, oddly shaped west wall, a curtain was cleverly used to create a backdrop beneath the bulkhead, concealing storage space for luggage and other items. This creative solution not only addressed the spatial challenges but also added a layer of elegance and practicality to the room.
